Four Girls Looking at Book |
Description |
Four Girls Looking at Book - This photo shows four girls, from the looks of them I am assuming they are sisters, posing in a photographer's studio. They are standing in front of a backdrop that has been painted to look like a leaded glass window with drapery. The older girls are wearing floor length dresses, while the young one's dress is only calf length. The two girls that are standing have identical hairstyles - the hair has been parted in the center and pulled back to the back of their heads and topped with a braid, then decorated with enormous, fabric bows on either side of their head. The older girl is wearing a blouse with 3/4 length sleeves and a blouson effect. It is tucked into the deep v-shaped waist band of her skirt. She appears to be wearing a small, pendant brooch. The younger girl is wearing a dress with 3/4 length sleeves. It is obviously a summer weight dress with a blouson effect bodice and full skirt. The girl sitting in the window seat chair is wearing a polkadotted dress with side closure on the bodice. Trim of the color of the polka dots accents the side closure, cuffs of her 3/4 length sleeves and the area where the upper part of her skirt meets the fuller, lower part of her skirt. Her hair is also parted in the middle and pulled back from her face, but doesn't seem to have any braiding. The girl seated on the high backed chair is wearing a dress with a jumper and blouse effect. The "blouse" is white and has 3/4 length sleeves and high neckline. The "jumper" has deep tucks on the shoulder and at the bottom of the sleeve. There are also smaller horizontal tucks across the bodice. The skirt has vertical tucks at the waist where it attachs to the waist band and there are more wide tucks at the hem line. Her hair is parted in the cneter and pulled back into a high bun at the back of her head and secured with a pretty comb, while the sides are slightly curly and wavy. Someone has addressed this postcard to "Miss Ella Sprunger, Berne, Ind.". All I can make out of the postmark is that it is stamped "Berne Aug 9 1 pm". There is a green, one cent postage stamp and the note says, "Its just from me. (Selma)". I can only assume that one of the girls in the photo is Selma. |
