  3. Berne City Band (taken from the Centennial Book)

Berne City Band (taken from the Centennial Book) - This picture was published in the 1852-1952 Berne Centennial Book on page 33. It was also published in the 14 Feb 1977 edition of the Berne Tri-Weekly. The Dunbar Band and the German Concert Band pictures were published in the same issue. This picture is not the original, we don't know who has it. This is a copy and one of the men in the photo, Amos Stauffer, who is standing on the far left o...

  4. E. J. and Anna (Sprunger) Liechty family - c. 1912

    E. J. and Anna (Sprunger) Liechty family - This photo shows E. J. and Anna (Sprunger) Liechty posing for the photographer with their adult children. They youngest, David Oscar, was born in 1894 and appears to be about 18 years old in this photo, which is why I have dated it to 1912. Someone has written on the bottom of the photographer's mat in the lower right hand corner "c. 1902?" but that would mean David would only be 8 years old and he is ...

  5. E. J. Liechty & Anna (Sprunger) Liechty family

    E. J. Liechty & Anna (Sprunger) Liechty family - This photo was taken at the Shalley studio in Berne. I believe this photo was taken the same day as 2015.013.88 because Anna is wearing the same dress with scarf at her neck. She is also sitting in the same wicker chair that her husband is sitting in in this photo. The same pillow can be seen on the floor in both pictures as well. Someone has written "c. 1897" on the lower right hand corner of ...

  6. E. J. Liechty boys - c. 1912

    E. J. Liechty boys - This photo shows the Emanuel J. Liechty sons posing together as a group. The only one identified is Menno seated on the left front, but the others are easily identified because of a family picture that was taken about 1900. From left to right front row: Menno, Reuben and David. Back row left to right: Calvin, Manasses and Robert. They are all wearing suits with white shirts and celluloid collars. Manasses is wearing a ...

  7. Emanuel J. & Anna (Sprunger) Liechty with grown children - c. 1934

Emanuel J. & Anna (Sprunger) Liechty with grown children - This is a professional photo taken of the adult Liechty children with their parents. Someone has written on the back "Emmanual J. Liechty & Anna Sprunger w/ grown children about 1934". On the front on the mat underneath the photo is written, "about 1934 after Menno's stroke Menno = bottom left". The other people aren't identified. But I know that E. J. is standing in the middle behind...

  10. Emmanuel and Anna (Sprunger) Liechty Family - c. 1900

Emmanuel and Anna (Sprunger) Liechty Family - This is a photo of the family posing outside their old home around 1899 - 1900. They youngest child in the photo, David Oscar Liechty, was born in February 1894 and he looks like he could be about 5 or 6 years old in this photo. This is apparently their first home and they are shown standing outside of it. It is made of wooden clapboard siding and looks like it's about 1 1/2 stories. There is a do...

  11. Emmanuel & Anna (Sprunger) Liechty New House - c. 1900

Emmanuel & Anna (Sprunger) Liechty New House - This photo was taken on the same day as 2015.013.85. Everybody is still standing in the snow wearing the exact same clothes and no one has aged. Evidently, the new house was built next door to the old house and they decided to have their picture taken in front of both buildings. This new house is very modern for the time and much larger than the old house and probably has all the latest convenienc...

  12. Freshman Class at Berne High School in 1910 - 1910

Freshman Class at Berne High School in 1910 - The students are posed outside sitting on and standing in front of a rail fence. It's either early spring or late fall, because the trees are bare, but there is no snow on the ground and the students are dressed only in jackets. The girls are wearing ankle length, flared skirts with long sleeved, white blouses. The boys are wearing suits with shirts and ties. They have all been identified by someo...

  13. Reuben Liechty - 1913

Reuben Liechty - This member of the Class of 1913 from Berne High School has been identified as Reuben Liechty. He is wearing a dark suit, white shirt and celluloid Perry collar with a white tie that has a vertical pattern in it. The stick pin holding his tie in place appears to have a bulb top to it. Reuben is wearing his hair parted on the side and combed back from his face.

  14. Reuben Liechty and Friends

Reuben Liechty and Friends - These three young men probably posed for the photographer in the 19 teen's. The young man on the right has been identified as Reuben Liechty and he was born in 1891. He looks about 18 years old in this photo, which is why I am dating it from 1915 to 1920. The clothing style appears to be from that era, as well. The guys are all wearing suits, the one seated in the middle is wearing a striped suit. They all have...

  15. Reuben Liechty, Ernst Yost and the Zuerchers - 1931

Reuben Liechty, Ernst Yost and the Zuerchers - This photo shows a group of children and adults gathered around a picnic table in what looks like a motor court. These motor courts were common in the 20s and 30s as people began to travel more with their cars. In the right rear of the picture you can see a small cottage with a car parked in front of it. There is another on the far left of the photo. The group at the picnic table has their car pa...

  16. Rufina Liechty and siblings

Rufina Liechty and siblings - This is a photo that has been made into a postcard which was addressed and had a note written on the back of it, but was never sent because there is no stamp or postmark. Someone has placed a piece of white tape on the back and written, "I think Robert, Rufina & Reuben or Reuben & Dave 1900 1902". If the photo is of Robert and Reuben then it could have been taken in 1900 or 1902 because Reuben was born in 1891 so h...
