Description |
Group of Men - This faded photo shows a group of men posing for the camera outside a building with a brick column on the left side and a multi-paned window and glass door. The men are wearing coats and jackets, so the weather is probably pretty cool. The only man I can identify is the man standing in the center with the "Hitler-like" moustache. That is Omer Neuenschwander. He is wearing a button down, sweater vest over a white shirt and tie. he is also wearing a suit jacket with an overcoat over that. He is holding a newsboys cap in his right hand. If I were to guess, I would say that his is a group of men who have been drafted during World War I, but they are conscientious objectors. Omer, and some other men from Berne, were sent to Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky. If this picture wasn't taken at Ft. Taylor, it was probably taken at some point on their way there. |
