Grandpa Neuenschwander's Studebaker |
Description |
Grandpa Neuenschwander's Studebaker - This is a small photo of a man sitting on the running board of an old car. Someone has written on the back, "Maxine Grandpa Neuenschwander's Studebaker car". "Grandpa" is probably Omer Neuenschwander. He is also seen in 2019.015.16. Omer was born in 1896, so would have been about 20 years old at the time of this photo. I found an identical image of this car on the internet and it was labeled as a 1915 Studebaker. The upholstered interior is very plush, but at this stage cars still had no windows, so the only protection from the elements is the canvas roof which would have been able to be folded down if the driver so desired. The wheels still have spokes like a wagon wheel, but there are narrow, white rubber tires affixed to them. The car sits in front of a white clapboard house with an open front porch. Omer is wearing a suit with white shirt and tie and Fedora. |
