Palmer House - This is another picture of the interior of the Palmer House taken by Dave Cole. This shot is from the cash register looking back into the kitchen. You can see the cook standing in back, framed by the pass-through in the wall. You can also see a refrigerator. The door to the left has had the top third of it cut out, probably so the cooks and waitresses can see if the way is clear to go through. The wall has been papered in a floral print and a small, round clock is positioned above the pass-through, showing the time to be about 7:32. Farther left of the cut down door is a telephone attached to the wall. To the left of that is another door with a sign that says "dining room" on it. This door led to the banquet room where many company functions were held, as well as the Friday Night Buffet. In the foreground you can see the glass display case. On top of it is a small, woven basket, but I can't tell what it's holding. Next to it is a display for Schrafft's peppermints. In this shot you can see that there are storage shelves underneath the horseshoe shaped counters. It looks like one is holding a box of Tootsie Rolls. The waitress is working near the pass-through, is wearing the typical, cotton uniform with white shoes. A man on the left sits on a stool with a coffee cup and a slice of white bread on a plate in front of him. Empty cups, plates, glasses with ice cubes and Dixie soda cups in metal holders, used by previous customers are scattered on the counter tops waiting to be cleaned up. Two women sitting in booths against the wall, one reading a newspaper, are relaxing after dinner. "1965" is written in blue ink in the lower right hand corner. On the back is, "Palmer House '65", and the stamp showing the photgrapher's logo which says, "Photography by Dave and Edith Cole 2020 S. Second Street Decatur, Indiana Phone 3-3861". |
