Class of 1931 - This is a collage of student portraits from the Berne High School class of 1931. All of the pictures are oval and the unidentfied students pictures were taken at the Berne Studio in Berne, Adams Co., IN by photographer Jacob Gerber. The pictures have been mounted on white, poster board and someone has taken a black marker and written, "1931. C." in the center top above an advertisement that the Berne Studio evidently ran in the newspaper. Someone has clipped the advertisement, because it is offering a special on Senior pictures, and glued the ad right in the middle of the senior pictures. Down at the very bottom of the poser board, someone has taken that black marker and put "B.H.S." for Berne High School. Then near each photo and in three places between the BHS letters, are little, round stickers with a metallic finish, that say "CLASS of 1931". Some of the stickers are green, others red, orange or purple. This class did not create a yearbook, so it's nice to have these pictures, although one is missing at the bottom. But it's sad that they are not identified. However, we found an article in the 1931 Berne Witness that described the commencement exercises and names some of the students, so I have added their names in the "People" subject line. The girls all have cropped hair that is styled into finger waves. They young men show more variety in hairstyles, with some quite long and full on top and others very short flat to the head. |
