Dunbar Band - A copy of this photo was put in the Adams County Witness of Monday 13 July 1925. The article states that the photo was taken at noon on July 4th in front of the Community Auditorium by Mr. Gerber of the Berne Studio, but does not give the year. Through searching microfilm I found the original article, a copy of which can be found in the Dunbar factory file. The men are posing with a large drum that has "Dunbar Band - Berne, Indiana" printed on it. In the center is an elongated diamond with "DUNBAR" printed in it. The men are wearing military style uniforms with leather straps across their chests and high, collars, brass buttons and large, breast pockets with buttoned flaps. They also have wide belts over over their jackets and are wearing knee high boots that lace up, but appear to have a separate, leather flap that wraps over the boot and then buckles at the knee. They also wear military style hats with a shiny, brim decorated in what is probably gold cord. The word "DUNBAR" can be seen printed above the brim. These were new uniforms in 1925. They are seated on the sidewalk underneath the overhang at the front entrance of the Berne Community Auditorium. This was a fairly new building, just completed in 1921. You can see the decorative, colored glass that hangs in different lengths and shapes, at the edge of the overhang. There would have been lights behind these, that would have made the glass glow at night. The doors behind them have panels of wavy glass in them. |
