Description |
"Jimmie" and "Betty" Gibson - this is an advertisement for Jimmie and Betty Gibson. There is a picture of the couple on the left and on the right it says, "Hear "Jimmie" and "Betty" Gibson at the West Missionary Church Berne, Indiana January 16-28 Services Each Evening at 7:30 You are Welcome". They were evidently Christian speakers who traveled the country conducting revivals, because this was for mulitple nights. This card would have been handed out at churches and probably other businesses in the community in order to advertise the event and get people interested in attending. There is no year date, but to judge from Jimmie and Betty's hairstyles and their clothing, I'm thinking this would have taken place in the 1930s. On the back, completely unrelated to the advertisement, someone has written in pencil, "Ivory Soap Dept S Box 25 Cincinnati, Ohio I like Ivory Soap". There used to be contests put on by the various companies that would sell cereal or soap or other household goods, for people to enter and take a chance to win something, so I'm thinking someone has written the address to be used to enter some contest. |
