Berne Fire Department - This photo was taken in 1965 according to the notation on the back. The men are posing in front of the new addition of the First Mennonite Church and have brought two of their fire trucks to pose with. They are both bright red, the one on the left has "BERNE FIRE DEPT." in large, gold letters surrounding an emblem of some kind, on the door. It looks like they have their lights on too, the red light to the left of the man's face on the far left is shining brightly, as well as the white light on the roof of the cab. The truck directly behind the men appears to be a ladder truck. You can see the extension ladder with it's hydraulic system for raising it higher. You can see the front end of this truck on the far right of the photo. The men are all wearing dark, double breasted suits with badges and peaked caps. You can sse the colored windows in the new addition behind them and to the far right you can see the new glass entrance with the opaque globe lights hanging from the ceiling. The pavement in the foreground has been marked off with yellow paint for the parking spaces. The men are identified Front Row left to right as: Herman "Doc" Kiefer; Army Velasco; Leonard Lionel "Boone" Whitehurst; Irus Isaak "Ike" Lehman; Alfred "Tuck" Clauser; Orval Kaeser; Fred Huffman; Vaughn Schindler; Jim Hill; Danny Yoder; Grover Cleveland "Jiggs" Moser; Roy Gilliom; Fred Whitehurst.
