1902-1903 Baker School Wabash Twp. #1 4th and 5th grades. This photo shows grades 4 & 5 of the Baker School with their teacher William Hirschy. The group is pictured in front of a wooden set of double doors that are placed back into the brick wall. The building is brick, and two windows can be seen on either side of the doorway. the teacher is pictured in the middle and is wearing a dark-colored suit, light-colored dress shirt, and dark-colored tie. He is also wearing a dark-colored hat, similar to a bowler-style hat. The girls are wearing dresses, or blouses and jumpers or skirts. From what can be seen in this photo, the boys are wearing shirts, coats, and pants, knickers, or possibly overalls. A young lady in the front is holding a slate with the title "4th and 5th Class Dist. No. 1." The back of the photo is titled as "4th & 5th Grades, Dist #1 1902-1903" in black handwritten ink. This postcard appears to have been postmarked in Berne on JAN 25 1908. Some of the postmark is missing. It has a one cent stamp with Benjamin Franklin on it. On the left side of the postcard is the handwritten pencil note: "Jan 25 This picture is 4th and 5th of our school. Selena Amstutz" The right side is addressed in handwritten pencil to "Miss Ella Habegger Berne, Ind." Underneath is the note, "Ella born Nov 14, 1895." This object id number also includes a numbered photo with an identification sheet. |
