First Bank of Berne - first building on east end of Berne |
Description |
First Bank of Berne - first building on east end of Berne - This is a photo of the very first building that the First Bank of Berne inhabited. It would have been where the Berco building is today. You can see what appears to be a hardware store on the left side of the picture. You can see a pitchfork and a string of bells fastened to a leather strap hanging in the display window. On the right side of the photo appears to be a drug store. You can see bottled displayed on shelving in the window. Bank of Berne has been painted in the two main windows in a very fancy script. Above the windows with the lettering are two samller windows. There are cement posts at the entrance, which is set back from the front step. There is a set of double doors with the banks hours painted on them. There are two large windows above these doors, and it appears there are three windows on either side of the entrance. Three men are standing in the entrance, and from the way they are dressed you can assume they are the proprietors. The man on the right and the one in the middle (who has been identified as Amos Hirschy on 05/24/2021) are wearing cut-away suits with watch fobs clearly visible hanging across their vests. The man on the left may be a customer, he is slightly turned from the camera as if he doesn't feel comfortable having his picture taken. He is wearing a derby hat and knee length overcoat over his suit. The men are unidentified and the photo undated. |
