  1. Brothers of the Brush 2002 - 2002

Brothers of the Brush 2002 - This photo was taken in the patio of the Mennonite church. The men are posing in front of and on the ramps that lead up the 2nd story. The majority of the men are seated or standing on the floor while others are standing on the ramps. On the back of the photo has been pasted a piece of paper that has the typewritten identification of all the men. I am assuming that the "Brothers of the Brush" is an organization fo...

  2. Gilliom Lumber Company

Gilliom Lumber located on East Main Street is where these three loaded wagons, their drivers and employees are. This photograph taken about 1901 shows boards, window frames, shingles and barrels just as the advertising on the side of the building promotes. Of the 13 pictured, two are Gillioms and one is a Reusser. It is summer time, the time to build and have the windows open at home. There seems to be a good south west wind from the way the ...

  3. Jacob and Katharina (Sprunger) Reusser Family - mid 1880's

The Jacob Reusser family is in this photo. All the ladies bodices are fitted and button down the front with many buttons. They all have a standup collar with some adornment at the neck. The male members of the family all have on three piece suits with ties. The females all have their hair parted in the middle and pulled tight to the back of their heads.

  6. Reusser Family in Kansas

Reusser Family in Kansas - This is a photo, completely identified, of the Reusser family that moved to Kansas. They are posed outside a white clapboard house that is in desperate need of paint. It is probably winter, though there is no snow on the ground, because everyone is dressed warmly, the kids all have sock hats on, and the grass looks dead. I have dated as I have because the little boys are wearing belted suits with knickers and high to...

  7. Reusser Siblings

Photo is partially identified on the back: L to Right 1. Henry Reusser 2. 3. Dr. Amos Ressuer 4. 5. WIlliam Reusser 6. Rosina Reusser Sprunger I'm inclined to think this is a photo of six of the Reusser siblings that were alive between 1934 and 1942. Their parents were Jakob & Katharina (Sprunger) Reusser. In order from oldest to youngest: Rosina (1862 - 1950) married Christian C. Sprunger, she was a twin--her sister Karolina (186...

  8. William Reusser - 1940s

William Reusser - This photo of William Reusser was taken in Kansas City, MO by a photographer who signed himself as "Bon-Ton". The picture is a copy of the original, but it shows the photographer's logo on the lower right hand side. William Reusser lived from 1864 - 1943 and was a dairy farmer in Berne. How he came to have his picture taken in Kansas City is unknown, but the photo shows a dignified, older man with gray hair and gray, Van Dyke...

  9. William Reusser and Family at Home

William and Sarah (Kirchhofer) Reusser and three daughters are standing in front of their vine covered house. The family moved to the country in 1905. It is not known if this was the town house, or the country one. The oldest daughter Ada appears on the right. The two girls may be Emma, Mahala or Clista.

  10. William Reusser Family

Photo is identified as East Water Street in Berne and William Reusser family. Left to right: Mahala, Omar, Clista, William in back, Emma, Sarah grandmother, Elmer, Ada. I'd guess this house to be somewhere in the 400 or 500 block of East Water Street today. William's parents were Jakob & Katharina (Sprunger) Reusser. He married Sarah Kirchhofer, daughter of Abraham & Marianna (Baumgartner) Kirchhofer. Their children: Ada (1886 - 1969) marri...

  11. William Reusser with grandson Omar William Reusser - circa1890

William Reusser with grandson Omar William Reusser - This photo shows Grandpa Reusser holding his new grandson, Omar, who was born in Dec 1889. It has only been identified as "Grandpa Reusser holding Omar", but I think it's William Reusser holding his grandson Omar William Reusser, who was born in 1918. It looks like they are posing for the picture in a living room. There is beadboard wainscoting on the lower part of the wall behind them, whil...

  12. William & Sarah (Kirchhofer) Reusser - 1886

William & Sarah (Kirchhofer) Reusser - This photo is of William and his new bride Sarah, I do believe it to be a wedding photo. There are no wedding rings, but I don't think the Mennonite exchanged rings back then. They were married on 07 Feb 1886 in Berne at the Mennonite Church. Sarah is standing next to her husband with her hand on his shoulder wearing a dark dress with a long bodice that buttons from throat to hem. The sleeves are long, ...
